Captain's Day 2015

Posted: 6th March 2015

Captain’s Day 2015 – West Byfleet Golf Club, Friday 6th March

Despite a very wet period preceding our opening Meeting of 2015, we were blessed with a dry week leading up to this event and the day was basked in glorious Spring sunshine. The field comprised of fifteen souls which enabled us to structure the format as five groups of three, with each group playing and scoring as stableford, better-ball pairs.

The course was presented in very good condition, but with a two-club wind proved quite challenging. As with a lot of the courses around Woking, the greens, which were a nice pace and very true, needed to be treated with respect. The average team score was just shy of 39 stableford points, which reflected the accuracy required with club selection and the putter.

The winning score of 46 points was achieved by the pairing of Malcolm Iliff and Andy Franklin. Runners up were Malcolm Iliff and Chris Court with 43 points.

Charles Crawford dismissed all thoughts of the water and buffering wind to clinch nearest the pin on the 13th and Neil Cossey teed it high and let it fly off the 18th to win the longest drive.

We were very pleased to welcome a few visitors on the day and the winner of the guest prize, representing the Old Dovorians was Nigel Tubman.
